Biography: 

Dr. Wei Xiong is a former PhD student and Post-doc in the LANE group. By the end of 2015, immediately after 8 years period of study and research in LANE group, Dr. Wei secured a full professor faculty position at Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics in Huazhong University of Science and Technology, which is the leading research institute in China on optoelectronics. Dr. Wei has made series of original contribution in the field of multi-dimensional laser micro/nanofabrication. He has successfully solved many existing challenges in carbon nanomaterial growth, assembly and three-dimensional micro/nano structuring using laser-based methods, demonstrating the unique advantages and great promise of laser technology in micro/nanoscale manufacturing. Dr. Wei has earned several prestigious research awards from international research societies including LIA and MRS. Many of his research work has been successfully applied by the leading companies and research institutes such as NIF, 3M, Nanoscribe, Asahi Glass, MIT, et al. to address the challenges in 3D micro/nanofabrication. Due to his world-recognized achievement in laser micro/nanofabrication, Dr. Wei has been recommended and recruited into the prestigious National Recruitment Program called “The Thousand Talents Plan”by Chinese government and granted over 6,000,000 RMB priority research funding to support his research in China. Dr. Wei is currently leading a major research project on large-scale laser-based micro/nanofabrication at Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics. Wei joined our group in 2007 as a fresh PhD student who had a strong education background on semiconductor physics and microelectronics. Wei has a strong passion for his research work motivated by his curiosity in laser based nanotechnology. Besides his strong research interests and hardworking attitude, Wei is quite humble and willing to learn from senior students and advisors, which makes him achieve quick development in his PhD career. He has authored or co-authored over 30 high-quality research papers and 3 patent disclosures from LANE group which undoubtedly show his creativity, diligence and enthusiasm for the scientific research. Besides doing research in LANE lab, Wei also cherished opportunities to communicate with other researchers and present his research work outside the lab. He have attended many international conferences with oral or poster presentations. As a senior LANE group member, Wei has the following advices for new and prospective students: 1. Trust in yourself and always think positively: Life has never been so easy, especially when you are doing your PhD study. Trust in yourself when you are facing challenges and always think positively for searching solutions rather than excuses. You will find the good ending. 2. Stop complaining, take the construction: Complaining can hardly make your life better but the construction do! Cherish your time in construction instead of complaining. 3. Open yourself and learn from the stronger person. Do not be shy to take the comparison or even competition with stronger guys. It is wise to show your respects to them and learn from them.
